HQIADS Malaysia Staff Visit 2026
The HQIADS Malaysia Staff Visit was successfully conducted from 16 to 23 August 2026, providing an important opportunity for the IADS Commander and staff to gain a broader understanding of Malaysia’s joint and multi-domain defence capabilities, while strengthening engagement with key Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) formations and agencies.
The visit commenced with Malaysia Joint Force Headquarters in Kuantan, followed by engagements at MINDEF, the Air Warfare Centre in Subang, and No. 8 Squadron RMAF. These visits provided valuable insight into Malaysia’s joint operational framework, air defence capabilities, command and control arrangements, and the employment of air assets in support of joint operations.
The final leg of the visit took place in Sabah, with engagements at the Royal Malaysian Navy Eastern Fleet, Submarine Force Headquarters, and 5th Division Malaysian Army Headquarters. The visit also provided the IADS Commander with an opportunity for an informal visit to the Royal Malaysia Police Gallery in Kepayan, Kota Kinabalu, further broadening the delegation’s appreciation of Malaysia’s security and defence environment.
Overall, the Malaysia Staff Visit was successfully conducted and achieved its intended objectives. The engagements generated significant insights into the evolving security environment, joint-force interoperability, and the importance of maintaining strong cooperation among FPDA nations. In particular, the visit highlighted the continued value of joint and multinational exercises, which provide an essential platform to enhance interoperability, strengthen professional relationships, test operational concepts, and prepare the FPDA for future security challenges.
The visit also brought forward important perspectives on the way forward for FPDA, particularly the need to continue maximising the benefits of joint exercises and ensuring that training remains relevant, practical and responsive to the evolving operational environment. The knowledge and observations gained throughout the visit will contribute positively towards future discussions, planning and activities within HQIADS and the wider FPDA framework.
